KIT Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam is a leading center of expertise for sustainable economic development, gender, health care and intercultural communication. We conduct research and provide advisory services and training in developing countries on a wide range of development issues. We stimulate interactions between global, national and local levels partners and help to bring theory into practice.
The department of Sustainable Economic Development and Gender comprises an international team of advisors working to improve the performance of programs, companies and organizations that pursue sustainable and inclusive development.
Within this department, we offer an internship position to master students, who need an internship in fulfilment of their Master degree.
Research Project description
KIT Royal Tropical Institute and the Institute of Development Studies in the UK are contracted by a large and renowned organization in the field of sustainable business to conduct an organizational portfolio mid-term evaluation. The purpose of this evaluation is two-fold:
1) The mid-term evaluation should assess to what extent the organization is on track in reaching their goals and objectives related to creating better jobs, better incomes, and a better environment.
2) The mid-term evaluation should facilitate internal learning in the organization.
Role description
As an intern you will participate in research design, data collection/organization, and data analysis. You will be part of the KIT/IDS research team and are expected to participate in the following activities:
- Attend meetings of the research team
- Prepare, join, and report on interviews with key stakeholders
- Engage in the organization and analysis of large quantities of data to:
- Understand the structuring of the organization’s program portfolio,
- Track progress against their Theory of Change
- Conduct an organizational performance assessment

Requirements and desired profile
Eligible applicants are enrolled in a master program in sustainable development, international development, business and sustainability, or a similar study, which requires the completion of an internship in fulfillment of the master degree. The ideal candidate has the following profile:
- Demonstrated educational background in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods, ideally including impact evaluations
- Knowledge on business sustainability, inclusive value chains, and/or landscape approaches.
- Fluent in English;
