Partos reacts to Africa Stategy

“There is every reason to be hopeful about the future of the African continent.” This is how we started our recommendations for the new Dutch Africa Strategy. At the same time, we also saw challenges in a world of increasing geopolitical and geoeconomic competition. In the Africa Strategy, the cabinet would address these challenges by outlining how the Netherlands intends to cooperate with African countries and partners over the next decade.

A comprehensive response to the Africa Strategy

After several months of delay, Ministers Schreinemacher and Hoekstra finally presented the final strategy. Partos and its members read this document with great interest. Shortly after its publication, we already shared some first impressions, but by now we have had time to study the strategy more closely. Therefore, we are now issuing a comprehensive response to the Africa Strategy, working closely with a wide range of member organizations.

Discussion based on 10 themes

All in all, we are positive about the strategy, especially the principles around localization, equivalence, and policy coherence.
In our comprehensive response, we first provide a brief general reflection, after which we discuss the strategy in more detail based on the ten themes on the basis of which we organized substantive input sessions and made recommendations last year.

And now?

After the summer recess, the Dutch Tweede Kamer will discuss the Africa Strategy with the responsible ministers Schreinemacher and Hoekstra. In preparation for that debate, we have shared our extensive response with the Kamer We are also still exploring the possibility of asking African civil society partners and experts for a response to the Africa Strategy.
